So we need to remind translators *not* to translate the slugs in the
links or it will break.

Or we just drop the .md suffix? Probably it's not needed after all.

Yes, I guess that would work, but it would just be a shame that we
wouldn’t be able to test the translations with a local build any more.
It seems like the most robust approach is to just avoid translating the
links and only translate the stub names.

I can imagine if multiple people are translating the website then it’d
be very easy to make a mistake and translate the link differently in
different places. It also means that if someone wants to change the slug
names later they can do it in one place without having to also update
all the links.
Yes, that's a good point about minimising churn, if wanting to change the slug translation.

Still, I wondered, if it would be possible to handle cases where someone accidentally translated the link in the content and so I created this change to the link render hook:
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/infra/libreofficeorg/+/205577

Esperanto preview: https://newdesign2.libreoffice.org/changes/205577/eo/

Can you test it locally and see that nothing is broken?

If it works fine, probably it could then be merged alongside a mass-removal of the .md suffix for simplification.
