We have a small number of black squirrels here in the northern suburbs of 
Chicago, but they are not the dominant ones. They are generally smaller than 
the ordinary grey squirrel and even smaller than the fox squirrels

I live in NE Ohio -- about 60 miles in from both the N and E borders. About 
20 years ago, a community of black squirrels were living about 20 miles 
north of here--and were prevalent.
