I agree, cropping the post id to the maximum we can get in a 24 hour period
would probably be a good idea.
What characters would be acceptable as a two-key combos? British keyboard
has the following top row with shift depressed: !"£$%^&*()_+ then
progressively down the keyboard: {} ;@~ |<>? Without shift, we have:
`1234567890-= then [] ;'# \,./
If ^ is not acceptable outside the US/UK market, how about &?

I love both ideas. Once upon a time i wrote on the wiki/bugs something
called tinydentid.
It was meant to deal with this, but no one ever took it serious.
Your id is just a bit big, but it could work (or we could short it to last
Xh ids (so 3 digits?).
I dont have any probs with using ^, but it does require a 3 keyb press,
unlike @ and #, that are done with just 2.
