Nope. Doesnt seem to work. If I could just upgrade I would. I have
about 750 user accounts on server. LDAP authenticates them to mail.
When I install new mail server, I have to migrate the accounts (intact)
to a new server. Hopefully without any downtime. My problem is the
version is so old slapadd with an .ldif file from the old mail server
will not import to a new server. Which is why I was wondering if there
was an upgrade faq or something.

Sounds like you are using some release of OpenLDAP 2.0. In that case, you really really want to upgrade to a new release. It is not surprising that you can't load an LDIF file from 2.0, but you could fix up the LDIF file for whatever errors it complains about.
