Hi, I would recommend reading my "An Introduction to Logical Domains" articles at:
http://opensolaris.org/os/community/ldoms/ Your guest domain needs an IP. Because you are using jumpstart, the IP must be defined in /etc/hosts or in your naming service on the jumpstart server, when you run make_template with JET. JET will then pick up the IP address accordingly. You'll also have to run make_client to configure RARP and BOOTP for the client. Once that is done, you'll be able to jumpstart your guest domain. Also, make sure you supply make_template with the correct MAC address for the guest domain. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Octave J. I was using boot vnet0 - install to do netinstall. The jumpstart server is burlpen-jet-1.east. I am not using mycontrol domain as jumpstart server.See below: tyro2# ./make_template -f -T /home/js150784/sc-ldom-jumpstart -E0:14:4f:fb:8a:f9 -O s10x_u5_10 -A sun4v sc-ldom -bash: ./make_template: No such file or directory tyro2# cd - /export/install/SUNWjet/bin tyro2# ./make_template -f -T /home/js150784/sc-ldom-jumpstart -E0:14:4f:fb:8a:f9 -O s10x_u5_10 -A sun4v sc-ldom Adding product configuration information for Updating base_config template specifics Client template created in /export/install/SUNWjet/Templates tyro2# ./make_template -f sc-ldom Adding product configuration information for + base_config + laptop + vts + jass + custom + dhcp Updating base_config template specifics Client template created in /export/install/SUNWjet/Templates Couple of questions: o Do I need an IP address to do net install ? If yes, then how to linkthe ethernet address and ip w.r.t addclient and jetclient ? o Currently,I am using the physical interface nxge0. Do I need toconfigure vsw0 for guest domain to be booted up through net ? o I did "ifconfig vsw0 plumb" on my control domain, but it gave "Nosuch interface" error. What is required to configure vsw0 ? Thanks Jitendra Jeff Savit wrote: That 0:14:4f:fb:8a:f9 is the MAC address that the LDoms is using whenit net-boots. Either a +different+ MAC address has been used in theadd_install_client (so the jumpstart server doesn't respond to thisrequest), or there is a lack of connectivity between the domain and thejumpstart server. If the control domain is the jumpstart server youhave an extra complication, because (by default) the control domaincan't be reached from a guest domain. The other usual reason isspecifying the wrong MAC address in the add_install_client. Whatversion of LDoms are you using, and what MAC address is displayed in"ldm list --long" for this domain? I hope this helps, Jeff Jitendra Sasmal wrote: Hi Jeff, I am seeing the following mesg continuously: Requesting Internet Address for 0:14:4f:fb:8a:f9. Can you tell me why is this so ? Thanks Jitendra Jeff Savit wrote: I don't know about reusing a hostname, but you can do the following; 1. Define the domain and its virtual network as usual: ldm add-vnetvnet1 primary-vsw0 myldom1 2. Look up the MAC address assigned for it: ldm list --long myldom1 --and look for the assigned MAC address 3. Use that in the add_install_client as in this example (here, Isupply the IP address and use the MAC address that LDoms displayed): ./add_install_client -s erp.central:/tank/OSimages/jumpstart/s10u4-ga-i 129.152.2.82 -e 00:14:4f:f8:b0:66 -n none myldom1 sun4v 4. ldm start the domain, and boot off the network device I hope that helps! The problem I am facing here is, I am not able to assign a new mac addr.It gives error like mac addr doesn't fall within 0x.. and 0x... range. I am not sure whatz happening here. I appreciate for any of your suggestion. You can let LDoms manager pick a MAC address for you, instead. I hope that helps, Jeff -- Jeff Savit Principal Engineer Sun Microsystems, Inc.
