Dear Michael,
Seems like a medical variant of a proprietary prepress system. You have bigger problems than just a proprietary data transmission system. For starters, you probably have a few terabytes of (semi?-)proprietary storage, with it's added cost whenever you want to add more space. I would do a complete cost-benefit analysis about throwing out the proprietary system: You can also use this for leverage against the proprietary system vendor to give you the info you need for the file transfer. After all, they don't want to lose the service contract revenue. Sometimes you have to hit a horse over the head with a 2x4 to get his attention... -> By the way, more graphics & prepress shops are throwing out proprietary systems and going with off-the-shelf solutions.
