Maybe, tulip for eth0 (or netsemi as suggested Netgear), the DLink
card uses the rtl8139 as a posted earlier for eth1 (which is not coming
up because the wrong module was being loaded for it).

Not on Dachstein, I've had to put in a valid gateway address before, but
that is all that is necessary for a regular ethernet DHCP connection.

That's dhcpd complaining because eth1 doesn't exist unless the proper
module is loaded ... no other config is required here.

See above ^^^.

The rest is fine, you just need to get both cards up for everything to
quit complaining. The DHCP request got you a good ip addy and 
netfilter isn't complaining about eth0 (WAN) at all, it is just
complaining because eth1 (LAN) isn't found.
