Yes it probably causes a problem. Routing is based on network numbers, so the interfaces become ambiguous and other techniques must be used. There is a lot unsaid here... "same hardware" implies that you are doing ethernet to ethernet, yet you say this is wireless. Perhaps you are using a wireless masquerading router, but in that case, it is not entirely clear that you need a DS firewall. If the wireless device is a bridge, then the case for a DS firewall makes more sense. Resolve a domain name without ping? Well, perhaps they block ICMP ping packets? Can you describe your testing more specifically? Note that you will probably have to dig through the ipfilter file and allow 192.168.1.0/24 through the router.
