Does module 'floppy' loaded? If no - try to add KMODULES=floppy to 
kernel boot parameters.

Strange, possible it is some incompatibility with your BIOS and 
syslinux/isolinux - at least I have running systems with socket A CPU 
(Barton/Thoroughbred cores, running on VIA chipset).
