Is the improvement of three players in an entire squad acceptable? I would say 
"no".
Have any of our younger players improved such as Lees and Byram?

I'd say Pearce has got better than he was under Warnock (he may have done so 
anyway, through settling at the club). McCormack has got better (again you 
could argue he would have anyway, but still).
 Smith has improved over the season.

This has nothing to do with spending money, who he inherited, who he has 
acquired, etc and has everything to do with the basic requirements of his 
position.
