It's not black and white.

Some older players have limited scope left to improve / change and/or are
in career wind down (aka the washed up players of Colin) - Norris, Kenny,
Green, Brown, Varney, Tonge, Diouf, Pugh and (to a lesser extent) Warnock.

Byram has had a difficult season due to injury. Lees has in some ways gone
forwards as a defender but backwards as a footballer.

Austin hasn't really changed. Poleon increasingly looks like he just hasn't
really quite got it.

As a unit our midfield has lacked coherence or real evident plan of
development, but in many ways that is down to how hopelessly lopsided our
squad has been with no real width, and our consequent muddling through with
formations.

We still don't have any convincing strike partner for McCormack.

What I would give credit to BMcD for is seeking to sign younger players
with the potential and capability to improve and develop with us -
Murphy, Wootton, Smith, bringing through Mowatt. They may not all have
been complete hits, but it strikes me as an infinitely preferable approach
to a Colin W*nker short-termist collection of last pay day journeymen.

BMcD isn't a top, top class manager. But I seriously doubt we could get a
top, top class manager in at present. He's probably about as good as we can
get at the moment, so personally I would rather keep him, wipe this season
off, and see if we can have (shock of shocks) a slightly more stable
summer, shed a few of the Warnock deadweights and continue squad
reconstruction. Easy for me to say when I'm not having to cough up my cash
and go to the matches every week of course.

With Cellino I very much doubt that is the path we go. I suspect the path
will be rather more dramatic and Italian. I just hope we don't get in a
lunatic like Di Canio or a double failure like Zola.
