at the core is the belief we are still a big club that is attractive to big name managers. It's a hard thing to accept but we are a club with a glorious past like a dozen others, but no guaranteed future. By any metric apart from an enormous (but rapidly aging) Fanbase, Stoke are a bigger club than we are, so are West Brom and to all inents and purposes Watford FFS. We aren't going to get a benitez or silva. We got to take a punt and I'd prefer it to be a young guy like H'Bottom than Mick Mcarthy.
