Regardless, I can understand why the officer with the gun shot him. If he was a suspected suicide bomber, then there's no opportunity to arrest him: in the time it takes to restrain him he could detonate his explosives, so he has to be totally incapacitated in as quick a way as possible(ie: shot dead). My worry is the inaccuracy of the information given to the fire arms officer, and given the two high profile shootings of innocent men I begin to suspect the planting of false information which is then inadequately checked. It's a good job we invaded Iraq or just think how much worse the terrorism would have been. Not. I've hated British Governments before (Thatcher), but never been scared of one like I am of Blair's Government. It's very, very sinister.
