When you make a statement, as if of fact and stick a convenient, "wasn't it"
on the end, one can assume that to be a rhetorical question emphasizing your
point, rather than an admission that you are not, exactly sure of your
"facts" and a willingness to be proven wrong. Still you are also able to use
it as a, "get out of jail card" when faced with the truth..

Erm, not sure what the logic behind the, "willing to pay more to the
creditors,
simply to sway their voting" statement was....

I think that is simple economics, in buying and selling isn't it? Nothing to
do with swaying votes. Please refer to your own, favourite ebay site
arguments.... Swaying votes comes in the form of underhand moves, such as
stacking the deck with "fictitious" debt and blocking the acceptance of any
other valid offer, regardless of price and never forget the, ever popular
threat to close down the business altogether if your derisory bid is not
accepted. Oooh and throw in the use of your own friendly Administrator who
doesn't exactly make all the bids crystal clear, to all voters, in a timely
manner, nor quite explain the rules regarding their responsibilities and
option. Now any and all of those, I'll willingly accept as examples of
"persuasion/coercion", but offering a higher price? I don't think so..

>And it is also worth noting that Bates' offer also included a further
amount
>based on future success (getting into the prem within 5 years I believe,
>which I would like to think isn't such a pipe dream).

Bates offer did introduce a component of an extra bonus payment, of 5 mill
if my memory serves correct to be shared amongst the creditors, probably
(definitely not a known fact, to me) to include his mysterious off shore
friends should the club achieve prem status; however this, was late in the
game and I'm not certain if it ever became part of the final deal. If he
sells, before then I imagine such a deal would fall to the new owners, not
him or simply evaporate...

If actually ever paid, that 5 mill would represent 14% of the debt or an
extra 14p in the pound; so, whatever the terms, or motive it was still less
than other offers. Still, less than Morris' initial 20% without the bonus of
the extra 20%.

You are correct in saying that, "Bates did not have to offer more"...For
that I refer you to the above paragraph on persuasion and coercion
techniques; however you are wrong in your assertion that Morris, or the
other bidders "had to offer more" or, at least not anywhere near the amount
he/they offered.

All they had to beat was, essentially the zero down and 1%pay off being
offered by Bates So Morris could have kept the majority of the money in his
pocket, had he so chosen or could have saved the other money to pay the
deferred wages, or the charities, in full or buy another couple of players
("in the best interests of the team on the pitch, at Tranmere"). Heck he
might even invested it the 400 million redevelopment pound scheme, but no.
He and others tabled what they thought to be honest, fair bids, under the
circumstances, Bates presented..

Never forget. Bates, too has redevelopment plans for the land...Not quite as
grand, nor as expensive as the Morris plan and possibly not as good for the
future of Leeds United Football club...

As you have, now come around to accepting, we'll let the courts decide the
legality of the dealings and the Football League decide the status of the
club, once the true facts are known. Till then we are a little bit in limbo
which leaves all listers and supporters, everywhere hoping and wishing for
nothing short of the best for our club...
