I agree with your last para wholeheartedly, it has been my stance as soon as we went into admin and it appeared Bates was the best option to get us out of it the quickest.
Funny that this stance which was deemed so selfish, shortsighted, ill informed, evil etc at the time is now the conciliatory stance! I notice the club have today contacted the FL to ask them when they are actually going to reconvene to discuss the GS. It appears that 'at the earliest available opportunity' means something entirely different in the ivory towers of the FL than it does for us plebs. At the last meeting some 2 weeks back the FL avoided giving the GS back because they wanted the paperwork & to seek legal advice. They got the paperwork they asked for within hours, so apparently it must be summer holiday time for the FL lawyers.
