Hey, lets get this straight shall we. I never brought up the troubles in NI. I never said the IRA were freedom fighters. I never tried to revise IRA/NI history.
NI was brought up by someone as an example of 'modern day' christian terrorism. Ie terrorism based on religion and only religion. All I was attempting to do, probably cack-handedly, was try and explain why the NI troubles were NOT based on some catholic crusade against protestants. In direct contrast to Al-Qaeda. And for the record if there was any 'freedom fighting' being done in NI in my opinion it was by the nationalists because NI is democracy, the people voted consistently for a nationalist party, and the Republicans were resorting to terrorism/conflict to get their way. Probably overly simplified but there you go - my opinion. Having said that I dont think anyone would argue with the sentiment that the end to hostilities was a good thing and the people of NI are still able to decide their fate via the ballot box and not the bullet/bomb. > I was originally taking this one offlist to talk to Verner in private but > I > have to say that Mark Humphries knows nowt with his Republican revisionist > (really Mark it is revisionist to paint the IRA as freedom fighters) > theory > and I apologise to the list for polluting your already busy inboxes. > _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
