Greetings from lurkland (seeing Gav reappear inspired me to post).

Had the almost unprecedented splurge of seeing 2 games in 3 days
(managed to get across for Scunny then enjoyed the Oldham footy feast
on tv alongside the rehabilitating Guy). I therefore feel qualified to
be an expert on everything.

Watching Delph, 2 main reasons spring to mind why his performaces have
dropped off so significantly (though if anyone can produce a moment of
sheer class in a game in remains him):

1. He most be pretty damn tired. Remember he is just a kid, and he has
gone from no first team experience to playing every single most in
what is a grinding and arduous league. Ideally a lad of that age you
would like to give a break, though that's not a luxury we can afford.

2. Under McAllister 80-90% of the passes he would have been encouraged
to make would have been short inter-changing passes in midfield, with
just the occasional long raking ball thrown in. Under Grayson, for
better or worse, the proportion is inverted. First instinct is to go
long and look for the 60 yard pass. Generally we only move to shorter
interchanging passes as the game gets towards to end and the game gets
stretched. Simple logic tells you (especially if the player is already
mentally and physically fatigued) that you are going to misplace an
awful lot more passes if you are trying to pass the ball 60 yards than
if you try to do it over 10 yards. And misplaced passes beget more
misplaced passes as confidence will inevitably be effected.

So to me the drop in form of Delph, such as there is, is more a case
of Delph sacrificing for now his own development and talents for the
greater good of the team and what Grayson feels is necessary to get us
out of this division.

Anyway, back to lurking.
