Check out http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/FWWfootballBN.htm for
information about footballers in world war one, especially about Major
Buckley.
and if you've gor time check out
http://www.heartsgreatwarmemorial.org.uk/history.html all about the
Hearts players who signed up...................
And then consider these extraordinary men.
I am deep in the middle of research about my family and others involved
in the Great War and it's everything from harrowing to heartbreaking.
Men who never came back, the families they left behing the job lot.
There's not a day goes by at the moment that I don't find something new
and even more horrible about what they all went through during and after
that war.
A very good friend of mine from Coventry, Paddy always used to sing the
song "Has anyone seen the general?" and end it with a long pause and the
words "Don't do it".
Of course he was right but people still do do it.
The 11th of November was my late dad's birthday, he would have thought
you were all mad for arguing about bloody poppy fascism, he too was
right and you lot CAN stop doing it.
