Are there any other BOTL left on the list? Even if there are I reckon
I must still be the oldest at....

Well I was born the year Grandpa Sykes left for Canada (so work it
out). Not that I mind anyone knowing my age, as age is only the
anniversary of the day you were born. It has nothing to do with
character or maturity. I celebrate each phase of my life.

I remember my first ever football game. It was an invitation XI vs
Donny Rovers (where I'm from) - can't remember the date. The
invitation XI included George Best and all the girls at school went
to ogle him. I didn't give a sh#t about Best, but the game, the
formations, the teamwork - football - just entranced me and I became
a regular Donny Rovers supporter after that.

I soon became a Leeds supporter at the youth club I went to, because
you had to make a choice before you went in - Manchester Utd (as
they were known then, not scum or manure) or Leeds Utd. Now I've
never liked the colour red, and blue, yellow and white are my
favourite colurs so it wasn't a difficult choice. I didn't go to any
games in Leeds at that time because my mum wouldn't let me go alone.

At Rovers matches I made a lot of friends but their team was
Liverppool ( I always felt sorry for them even then). One Friday
evening, May 3rd 1968 Rovers were playing and my friends told me they
were going to watch Liverpool at Leeds the next day. Mum was ok with
me going with friends so my first Leeds game was on May 4 1968.

We lost 2-1 and my friends didn't half rub it in. But that just
didn't matter because I was now watching "my" team, and that's the
way it's been ever since. But heck, has it ever been a roller coaster
ride!
