(Snip report) Beckford definitely closed the keeper down and got his head to the throw which was why it finished up with Johnson who did shoot rather than cross. It might have sneaked in at the far post if the defender hadn't got a foot on it which played it out to Beckford.
Totally agree with you about Howson. Looking at the shot from behind the goal as he hit it, it was hit with such venom and purpose as if to say "I've been watching you tossers from the bench as you've fannied about. This is how you score goals". Agree about the day-trippers too but maybe we'll get a few more regulars next season now we've gone up a Division. On the whole I've enjoyed our time "below stairs" with some great memories. The winning at Tranmere on the first day of the first season after the worrying summer and after an appalling first half display and Johnny Howson's winning goal at Carlisle in the play-off semi-final are two of the highlights and beating the Scum at Old Trafford as a lowly Third Division side, which can be celebrated properly now we know it hasn't cost us promotion. Finally yesterday will live long in the memory after all the worries that we were going to blow it over the last few weeks. I'll be starting my sixtieth season in August and I'm delighted it'll be in the same Division as was my first. I'm not holding my breath about Bates getting the cheque book out but maybe we'll be able to attract a better class of loanee :-) _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
