Yep thats pretty much spot on. Gradel lost control of the ball, the defender got there first and cleared and collided with Gradel in his follow through - no foul. Gradel then sat on the ground for a couple of minutes - but given we had the ball for most of this time and didnt play it out, it implies his own team mates didnt think he was really hurt either. Dont know whether the defender said anything to provoke him but i wouldnt bet on it - Gradel has showed before (Millwall / Southampton) that it takes very little to make him go loco.
When he went off i thought he'd cost us promotion and i didnt want to ever see him in a Leeds shirt again. I'm sure despite the fact it turned out Ok in the end, Grayson will remember this. A complete loose cannon. Matt --- On Mon, 10/5/10, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: I think Gradel had been injured a couple of minutes earlier. He went on one of his runs down the right but took a bad touch and knocked it too far ahead of himeslf as he cut into the box. He then had to over-stretch and was injured in the challenge with the defender. Gradel stayed down for a minute or so, then got up and hobbled back upfield, but broke into a run to try to join in the attack as Beckford came through for the disallowed 'goal'. So possibly Jones shouted at Gradel because he thought Max had been exaggerating the injury, as he had started running just as Leeds broke through with another chance to score. Or possibly Jones and/or Max were angry about the challenge that led to Max being injured in the first place. On the second point, again, not excusing his behaviour, but when remonstrating with the ref, he seemed to be pointing at his leg. Then eventually was limping when he went off. When seen later, his left leg was covered groin to foot in a bandage. My guess is he was retaliating for a similar offence committed against him.
