FWIW here in metric land they are the 16 metre and 6 metre boxes. And you go back 9 metres for a free kick. This is wierd because in England you will get a ref doing 10 exagerated strides to push a wall back whereas in France the ref will pace out 9 normal steps. Given that a metre is longer than a yard, and that French legs are shorter than English ones (sic) "9 metres" probably means "nearly 8 metres" ;)
