It's great to see you Carl, and I consider you a seasoned veteran of this group. You're no longer the new guy since you have posted messages in the past and shown some interesting projects. I've been a self supporting artist for more years than not, and I can tell you the craft shows are a tough gig to earn a living. Especially right now with the economy that we are in. Do you have any photos of your booth setup? I would be curious to hear about your current product line up and price point. It's a little beyond our scope, but have you considered Google Adwords?
What's wrong with box makers? Are you talking about 6 side square ones or turned ones? Is that what's popular in your neck of the woods? I also think you have a good point about how common the barley twist and ropes are to us. I grew tired of seeing them a long time ago which is probably why I do mostly indexed work. Your comments also remind me Legacy was going to make a tutorial that talked about money making items for quick sale. It would be a great new topic that could be opened up for those trying to earn a living using the equipment. This group has several entrepreneurs that would benefit from this topic. -Tim ----- Original Message ----- From: carstenstig...@verizon.net To: legacy-ornamental-mills@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, July 04, 2011 6:09 AM Subject: Re: All New Members Tim et al, Just a quick reply on your note on posting and asking questions. I work a rather full time job that takes almost 60 hours a week, I build Huge industrial air compressors for FS Elliot and have been a Factory technician for Atlas Copco in the past. I am in the process of doing a startup of my own woodworking business on the side at this time. While I have not posted for a while I am very faithful at reading the posts, and am constantly amazed at the items this group makes. While I am on the low end with only a 900 I am working very diligently to incorporate what I can do on it into my woodworking to set myself apart from the "box makers" out there in the Pittsburgh PA area. For anyone contemplating going into this full time let me tell you that getting exposure is a real hurdle to overcome. I am looking at going into the Custom Made Site as a paying member to get my items to come up when searching. Even the juried shows here in the area are no cheap way to go as I have been trying to do them now for a year and have only broken even. that all being said the Legacy gives me a heads up over others due to the different way I can do things. We may not realize the barley twists and the rope twists are that unique as we see this all the time and do them but for the average person it is what sets us apart. I know that I appreciate the group and everyting that you put into it. Is there a technology barrier preventing people from posting questions to this group? I'm looking at a list of 42 members that have never posted a message in two years. I would like to hear from those members. If there is a need not being met feel free to provide some feedback here or you can reach me directly at artmarb...@comcast.net if you want to keep your comments private. Keep in mind, this group is private and only fellow members can see your messages. All of the members for the last two years have been screened before gaining access to the group by myself or Curt. This creates a safe environment for people to post questions and show projects. If you really feel embarrassed to ask what might seem to be a simple question, send a note to me privately and I will pass on the question to the group and never share your name. I've done this for several members and the group benefited from the input. If you feel your English skills are not good enough to ask a question, send me a note and I will clean it up and post it to the group. Again no one needs to know your name if that's the only issue preventing you from sharing. I'm looking forward to hearing some input on this issue. -Tim -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Legacy Ornamental Mills" group.
