Curtis, Would it not have been easier to use pieces of scrap 2x2 angle iron or a steel window lintel from a house being renovated? You may be able to fined scrap steel at a local "Habitat for Humanity Re-store". (One of my favorite places to check out once or twice a month.) I have never tried cutting stainless - but have tried to drill it - and that's a real bear! Much easier to drill angle iron.
