Found my problem.  All files in my genealogy folder had been moved to a folder called config.msi.  No idea why.

I just went to my name to show how easily these PDF files launch but...........didn't happen.  Instead it opened my file manager.

Hi, Ron --

The problem is that I link to PDF files as "Videos."  When I go back
later, click on the icon to try to launch the PDF (in Legacy), it won't do
it (and never has).  So, basically, it's an exercise in futility to link
to them at all, since I have to (outside Legacy) navigate to the directory
and launch the PDF so I can read it.  But I've been doing it anyway hoping
one day it *would* work.

Messing around with it yesterday, logged on as an admin rather than an
"unwashed masses" user, I clicked on the "video" in Legacy and it opened
right up in Adobe Reader.  I thought, "Ah HA!  I'm on to something!"

Unfortunately, my new found knowledge isn't helping me much.  Unless, of
course, you consider I might not have had enough frustration in my life --
which is not the case.  ;-)

I've been messing with it and messing with it and it still won't work --
even though I gave my "daily" user admin privileges -- so that wasn't it,
though now I know it *can* be done.

Now, I'm just getting a different error message:  "There is currently no
default media player set up for your computer."

Well, there is -- I just don't know how to get Legacy to figure that out.
I change the "launch" option to "Windows default media player," but as
soon as I try to launch the PDF and get the error messasge, it reverts
back to "Legacy's built-in player," of course.

It is obviously a configuration problem that has nothing to do with
Legacy, but I can't figure out what it is.  It is obviously some
difference in the settings between my admin user and my daily user
(exclusive of admin privileges), but I haven't been able to snoop that
out, either, even after going back and forth this morning checking
everything I can think of.

To answer your other questions, I'm using Adobe Reader 7.0.8, updated
yesterday -- and it works fine everywhere else.

I'm out of ideas -- except to run as admin (root) all the time so I can
launch PDFs from Legacy -- not.  ;-)

Thanks, Ron -- I can only hope you're a lot smarter than I am, 'cause I've
run out of ideas.  :-)
