I can find the alternate names, but I don't have a clue about the proper format for nicknames in Legacy :-). I know I don't like the Alternate Name wording when applied to nicknames i.e. "Another name for Jacob was Wildcat." I tried adding a nickname event so I could control the words but that prints under "Noted events in his life were:" which seems a little stiff for a nickname. As I recall, I had problems with the way FTM handled nicknames also. I wish the programmers would just provide a real nickname slot. I have a lot more nicknames than I do true alternate names.

Thanks--worked....so now that "begs the question"--what is the proper format
for recording nicknames in Legacy. For example, if someone was named May
Elizabeth Scruggs, but she was always called "Mayme", in Family Tree Maker, I entered her name as May Elizabeth (Mayme) Scruggs. Is that not the proper format in Legacy? I know about the AKA place and was using it for names they
might be found under when researching (rather than just a place for the
"went by")--is that the only place you would put "Mayme" (no quotes).
