John:

I have a MyDocs folder called Strays where I keep this information.
Sometimes they're rather large family clusters with several bits of related
data and in those cases I make a folder-within-a-folder, perhaps called
"Charles of Glanford" (I know what that means) and there I collect all
information related to that family group.

There was a rather clever solution to this situation posted on the list some
months ago. Unfortunately I don't remember the details but as I recall, the
poster created an artificial patriarch in Legacy using the surname along
with a town or county for a first name. Strays were then attached to the
appropriate patriarch and therefore grouped by area. In other words, you'd
have "Iowa Rossiter," "Colorado Rossiter," etc. This would give you
separate trees for each area, but they would be fairly simple to see in
Legacy's Tree Finder. Sorry for the very fuzzy response, but maybe this
will give you an idea, or perhaps the lady who originally posted is still on
the list and will clarify.

Kirsten

Subject: [LegacyUG] how to record unconnected families

Hello again list
I note that my last email has been answered before it has appeared on my
list
Thank you to Dennis, Jenny, Richard, Susan and Wynthner.
Could I now ask...

I have lots of bits of paper about the ROSSITER family in general and I
don't know whether the people are part of my family at this time, they may
later prove to be part of it. Is there a general place to record such
information. Such as a general notes file OR does one have to set up a file
in some other program such as Windows My Docs
John
