If you use the Chronology View, or Report, I think it's rather nice to have the census info display in it. Gives you a good quick overview of the family, without going to the source. It looks better if you follow Geoff's tip, and leave a blank line at the top of the note field, the Chronology page will have a cleaner look.
As to relabeling my Census events by Census years, thanks to those who pointed out the relative uselessness of such a move. Somehow the thought that it could be useful just kept hovering..
