Hi Tish,
For the long term I keep my first backup for the month - so every now and then I go into the backup folder and delete others.

I would never rely on one or two backups and only recent backups for data that takes so long to enter and is so complex that you may not return to a particular family and notice you've made an error for months. I like to have the possibility of pulling out a backup from months ago to retrieve data that I may accidently have deleted.

Recently I used backups from 1999 and 2002 to retrieve added dates for individuals and marriages as I now know more about Access tables and was still being driven mad because I lost them once and then lost more in Sept 2002 (a date etched into my memory as when looking to see when someone was added so many read Sept 2002) If to get rid of an error you are required to export to a new family file you lose all your added dates. Not vital information but good to have.

I am asking a new backup question. When leaving Legacy, I do backups nearly every time.

Can I delete all but the last two or three? It is showing a lot of backups for the same family. I always put the date and the file name. It would be nice if this were possible to get rid of some of the accumulation.

Thanks very much.

Tish
