First question. Do you want to preserve unused the NEW RINs for your 'father' and group, that got Merged into non-existance, or just to keep those that didn't match people in your original file? After I have done as you did, I SAVE, use ReNumber, SAVE, turn off ReNumber, adding the NEW people in the next slots, so no holes will exist, and my old numbers were maintained. BUT, make sure there are no extra holes in the list. another way, which is time consuming, but fixes it EXACTLY as you want, is using fill all RINS, and add 10-20 fake people to grab all the slots, and Merge fake person #1 (with the desired RIN) to the new family member (high number). I did this when a 'fix' had gone wrong and I had 10 digit RINS for about 20000 people. Once this is done, you can go back to the way you want the RINs to be added.
