I have ancestors in my database [Legacy 7 (Deluxe)] that emigrated to
the US from the Hungarian part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (now
Slovakia). In entering data, I have read I should put the current
location in the Location Field (that reflects where the vital records
are now located) but would also like to keep the historical location,
for that is the place from which they emigrated!
How do I enter and save both locations for the same person/event in my
Legacy program [e.g. Beszterczebanya, Zolyom, Hungary and Banska
Bystrica, Slovakia] also noting which location is current and which
location is historic?
I don't know where you read that you should put the current location in
the Location field, but I think any serious genealogist would tell you
that you should always state the location *as it was at the time* (and
which is presumably what is indicated in the source material.)
I don't claim to be any sort of an expert, but I would always follow
that rule and if I thought it necessary I would record the historical
changes in Notes or Source Detail Comments.
