Were you able to backup ok previously? I'm wondering if something was
changed with a Windows update or with an install or uninstall of another
program?

When you compress another file using either the Windows compression utility
or something like WinZip, that's a completely different process than what
Legacy uses. Legacy uses XCeed Zip compression.

One thing you might try is to go to Options > Customize > Locations and make
sure the "Location of temporary files" shows as c:\Legacy\Temp.

My only other suggestion at this time would be a complete uninstall and
reinstall.

After you uninstall Legacy, with Windows Explorer look in the C:\Legacy
folder or whichever folder you had Legacy installed in. Within this folder
you will find several files remaining that you will need to delete.
Carefully delete the following files with the file extension of:

.usr (defined as "USR File")
.exe (defined as "Application")
.ocx (defined as "ActiveX Control")
Legacy.exe.local (defined as "LOCAL file")

If the last two files aren't there, don't worry about them.

DO NOT delete any of the folders like the Data folder, Picture Folder or Web
Folder as these folders hold your data and you don't want to accidentally
delete your family file or pictures. Don't delete any reports you may have
saved to the main Legacy folder nor should you delete the Legacy*.lic file.
All the other files should be deleted. You'll need to reset your
preferences after you reinstall.

Download the latest build of the Standard Edition from our website by
clicking on the Download menu button. Your Deluxe features should be
unlocked when you reinstall.

**When you reinstall, make sure that all other programs are shut down and
your anti-virus and anti-spyware software is disabled.**

Thanks for using Legacy.

Sherry -

The "E" drive is a memory stick drive. When I try to back up to the hard
drive, the "C" drive - I get the same error message.

John,

What’s the full error message?
Backup Error: 508, Cannot move temporary file to target zip file.

Which build of Legacy are you on?
Installed Version: 7.0.0.90

Which version of Windows do you have?
Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3

Where is your backup destination?
E:/Jack's 2009-03-30 1.19.07 PM zip

Are you backing up Multimedia Files also?
No

At what point of the backup does the error appear?
It runs to the end, then just before closing the error pops up. I have been
doing the same thing for some time with no problem. I just backed up my
netbook Legacy with no problem; same build. I have successfully backed up
other stuff (pdf files) to the memory stick that I have earlier Legacy
backups on with no problem.

Thanks for using Legacy.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Error 508

When trying to backup today I can not - and get Error 508. It is not in the
Legacy tech Error list.

I backed up the way I have for years. So, I then did all file maintenance;
same Error 508. I then tried to backup another (non-Legacy) file and had no
problem.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Regards, John
