As most of us do, I have a number of wives where I only have their given name.
I do have "show married name in name list" and they show up there fine
but..................So for instance I have six Catherine's with no last
name.  When I would look for someone with the name Catherine, sorting the name
list by first name, I would come up with six Catherine's with no idea which one
I wanted until I went through each one looking to see who they were married
to.

I have worked out a method that would work if you wanted to put your
identifying numbers in the same spot.  I had tried using privacy brackets in
many different fields but it always messed up the name list or the marriage
list, or did not show in the pedigree view.

In the Title Suf field, I enter what I need to know to clarify which Catherine
I am working with. Example:
Catherine who married Donald Abbott. In the name field, all I have is
Catherine, and no surname.  In the Title Suf Field I have entered [[Abbott,
wife of Donald]]
This shows up clearly when working in the pedigree view or when I sort the name
list by either given or surname.

May not work for you but is an option.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Adding numbers to names

I have a book that I use as a source many times in my family history, the
author researched all of our family surname in a particular state from 1750 to
1860.  He has a identifying number on each person. There are so many duplicate
names, I use this number often as I research this book and add information to
my Legacy file.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could add this number for the
corresponding person in my Legacy files?   It would be so helpful if I could
see at a glance that I'm adding information on the correct person.

Thanks,
Syble Cline Glasscock
