Reminds me of a little *test* I used to give my students - I provided a list of numbered instructions. Instruction one said "Read to the end of the page." Instructions two to nineteen contained various tasks / questions. Instruction twenty said "The ONLY thing you need to do to complete this test is to write your name in the top right hand corner." Guess how many labouriously completed EVERY task before getting to the end! Moral of the story - read to the end before trying to do anything.

If you don't find your ancestor on the first line of a census page, do you ignore the rest of the page? I did tech support for years and there's a reason for the order of information in help files. If you're too impatient to at least skim the help file entry (note that I didn't say *read*), you're more likely to do damage with an unfamiliar command. If you don't know all that a feature can do, you probably shouldn't use it. The signal to noise ratio on the list has once again deteriorated to a level that's no longer worth my time to read (usually happens within a month or two after a major update). Don't bother to reply to this message - I'll be off the list before then. Odds are, there will be replies because few people read this far. > I am in total agreement, John! > > If I can't find the information at the beginning of the help page, why > would > I waste my time reading to the end of it? > > Cathy-0 > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "hwedhlor" <hwedh...@cox.net> > To: <LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com> > Sent: Tuesday, July 05, 2011 2:08 PM > Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Help files that are not very helpful! > > > Pardon me, but that information should be _first_ on the > help screen, not last! > > John Zimmerman > Mesa, AZ > > > Legacy User Group guidelines: > http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp > Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: > http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ > Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: > http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ > Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp > Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and > on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). > To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp > > > Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
