Thanks Leo, I don't put the Word files in Pics but in that same group is File - (Pic, Sound, Video, File). In Legacy Pics - the only files there are samples. I have added nearly a dz pics - wonder where they are?? Unless there's another sub heading under one of the other titles. Do any of you use 'Files' to link documents? That's fairly new, isn't it? Maybe there's a quirk. Maybe I should try tech support? Tried to install the docx again this a.m. - same result. The old file was Workman, Fred & Margaret hdstn - the only place I see that (now deleted) is in Wordpad under recently used files. The new one is Fred & Margaret Workman hdstn and also a copy same name with a '2' appended. I renamed a copy Sam Jones - got the same unedited file. That file is 'stuck' somewhere in Legacy! I will be gone most of the day. Later I will try downloading that file again from the source. Betty FL

Example: C:\Legacy\Pictures\hdstn folder\Fred and Margret Workman hdstn.docx If this is where the corrected file is this is fine, if not than you may have to redirect Legacy to the correct file. But before you attempt this make sure that there is only one file in this folder with the same file name. Close your Legacy program. Go to your Start Button on your computer>click My Computer> click your C: (drive)> click Legacy> click Pictures> click hdstn folder (or follow the path that appeared for the file). Now scroll through your documents to find the file "Fred and Margret Workman hdstn.docx". If there is only one by this name double click on it to check the wording, if it does not contain the newly edited version than the changes that you thought you had made did not take effect and may have to be edited again. If there are two files with the same file name than check the second file to see if it contains the newly edited information. In this case just delete the incorrect file and keep the correct file. If the above does not work than you can try and locate the original file before you changed the file name, open it up to see if it contains the the newly edited version. Assuming that you still have the original file with the newly edited information and the file with the correct name but the incorrect information than you will have to alter both. Provided that you do not have the orginal file attached to other events. If this is the case than make the following changes: 1) in your Fred and Margret Workman hdstn.docx rename it Frederick and Margret Workman hdstn.docx 2) go to the original file with the correctly edited information and rename it Fred and Margret Workman hdstn.docx Now open your Legacy program and check to see if the correctly edited file opens up. If this works than you can go back in and delete the file renamed Frederick and Margret Workman hdstn.docx, I hope this is not too confusing and it helps. Is there another step between the two? I’ve use this same procedure to link a census page and a typed obit, no problem – difference is that I didn’t make any changes to them. Also closed Legacy and reopened to see if that made a diff. Procedure to link ‘File’: Click Pictures icon Click File (hdstn folder opens in Word, the last place I used) Click ‘Fred and Margret Workman hdstn.docx’ Click ‘Open’ in Word (to attach) Legacy Description pg opens Type ‘Headstone’ caption Hit OK – icon labeled Headstone is in the Pic Gallery Dbl click - didn’t close the .docx file, get ‘the hdstn file is in use, etc…’ uses the new and correct file name. Closed it Dbl click again – got the old, unedited file that has been deleted. Betty FL On 14/10/2011 22:24, Bob Rowe wrote: > Legacy wouldn't change the extension. Are they .doc or .docx? Legacy has the facility to override the Windows defaults so the OP should go to Tools>Customise>Launch and see if Wordpad is selected as the default wordprocessor for Legacy and if so, change it to Word. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
