Thanks, everyone, for your input on digest mode. Since this isn’t a super active list (which I didn’t know til now), getting individual messages shouldn’t be too much of a problem. I’m on some other lists where you could easily see 50-100 messages a day, which can really also clog a mobile phone when trying to weed through to get to other messages.

I do agree, it's not exactly countless, but when (like me) one has business emails, and personal emails, and mailing list emails, as well as spam all coming to the same inbox (even if via importing from other accounts), wading through what is and isn't "required viewing now" can get problematical. Using filters, labels, and automatic archiving of messages is the way I get around this to enable me to quickly see what needs to be viewed now, and what can wait for later. Digest not possible, no problems here - would be nice, but not having it isn't going to change the way I view messages. I can not understand this fascination with Digests! Receiving a Digest :- a) does NOT reduce the volume of 'readable' characters received b) does NOT reduce the number of real messages received c) DOES lead to lazy trimming of messages d) DOES lead to poor threading of messages e) Using a Digest does mean that you have to read more of the Digest in order to decide whether or not you want to submit a response or reply on a particular thread, or indeed, that you aren't interested in a thread. Whereas, receiving individual messages :- a) makes it easier to organise your inbox b) makes it easier to archive messages that you might want to retain c) makes it easier to ignore threads that don't interest you Since the start of November, and up until the time of this reply, there had been 12 messages on the list and five of those (six including this one) were occasioned by this Digest need.
