Thank you for your reply Patsy. the idea of building our own toolbox of
websites to check is a great idea. I do have my favourite websites that I use
and they change for individuals depending upon where people lived at various
times. I just feel that I am not utilizing the Research Guidance and the
to-do-list as well as I could. As my current toolbox/website list is in my
head, it would be nice to have a list that I can check against, in case I
forget something. At the moment I don't belong to a society for various
reasons. I have just joined the Aus-Legacy group so I am happy to continue the
discussion there if you like.thanks Anne

Anne, Let me share my favourite WWI site with you. Once you have the National
Archives of Australia item barcode for your veteran download their WHOLE record
in ONE action at http://dhistory.org/archives/naa/ .I tend not to use Legacy’s
Research Guidance as the Australian genealogical societies seem to do this
quite well. For example, the Society of Australian Genealogists
(http://www.sag.org.au/) have a webinar for members on the Australian War
Memorial archives on 22 October. However, Chris’s comments about how to add our
own websites into a workaround research toolbox in effect in Legacy Family Tree
reminded me of Thomas MacEntee’s webinar Building a Research Toolbox (see
http://www.familytreewebinars.com/ on 6 April 2011) so perhaps building our
own research toolboxes and sharing these as Research Guidance may be something
to think about and discuss. Indeed, when I reflect, my talk to the Genealogical
Society of Victoria (http://www.gsv.org.au/) on 6 November is really about
sharing part of my own personal research toolbox. Also, Meg Bate’s facebook
page on VicGUM (http://www.vicgum.asn.au/ ) often has posts on sites that we
might incorporate into our own personal research toolboxes. Perhaps, I get
ahead of myself and the websites above really do form part of our General
Research Guidance. I think the Australian Legacy list is the more appropriate
medium for discussing this further (join us at
aus-legacy-l-requ...@rootsweb.com if you aren’t already a member) – after 6
November. RegardsPatsy(Fitzroy, Vic) From: Chris Bayley

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Research Guidance Anne,

I too have also thought it would be great to be able to add your own research
sites. My work around to this is 2 fold.

- Try changing the default country for an individual by going to options in
research guidance. Save & go back to options and select refresh RG results. I
have obtained extra sources at times by selecting Australia & NZ depending on
your timeline events.

 - Set up your own research sites using the To do list. Select add to create a
to do item, add a category & locality (or add your own). Then select add under
the repository tab and enter the name & address details plus copy & paste your
site URL to the home pg field. Once saved the URL is active and can be used
from the repository tab itself or from the double arrow icon at the end of the
home pg field.

Hope this helps.
