June,
I too had a "sick" branch on my tree with all kinds of errors - in this
case mostly due to a guy named Gustave Anjou, a "professional" genealogist
in the early half of the 1900 who "created" genealogies - several in my
line and other genealogists had used his information for their own. So I
don't know where the creativity/inaccuracies begin and what was truth.

It was easier for me to just lop off the whole branch and start all over.
Yes, DELETED about 1300 names starting with a great-grandmother and 8
generations with huge families of 12-16 kids who also had huge families.

I'm starting with a clean mind and I am spending my time looking for
original records instead of trying to figure out where my/his mistakes were
or even whose family trees online are correct or not. There were several
families who all had the same kids, same vital records but living in
totally different places, sourcing on my part was far from very good anyway.

Now I am working on accuracy as I go and I am not in a big rush to collect
names. I want to leave an excellent, well sourced and accurate genealogy
behind for my family. Why give them a bunch of junk? And if I don't get
it ALL done, then they will get to have some of the fun of researching too.

Good luck.
