This discussion got started because check boxes that weren't even
visible on-screen were getting checked, so looking doesn't help.

Just how far away from where we are clicking are we supposed to look?

In my case, clicking TO THE LEFT OF the "Private" check box, in order
to make Legacy the active window and bring it to the foreground, causes
the not-then-visible 1/8-inch "Never Married" check box TEN INCHES AWAY
to get checked. When Legacy pops up full-screen, am I supposed to
somehow notice that that box is now checked even though it never was?

I don't know of anyone who reads the entire screen every time they
click, especially when clicking in the supposedly inert background.
And I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to remember if all the data
on that screen was still correct.

Bob

Just look at "options" in Excel, Word, Outlook etc. They all exhibit the
same issue.

The moral seems to be to look at your screen when you start clicking

I'm not so sure it's a Microsoft problem. I've never seen any other Windows
based program that behaves like this for radio buttons or check boxes.
