If you can find GENviewer (supported by Legacy and sold by them I think - GV is owned by a guy in Novaa Scotia who is very friendly and responsive - GV provides an option to produce a Gedcom file that is self programmed to run on recipients machine even if they don't have a genealogical program - and will display the genealogical file you want them to see, as if they did/do have a gen prog. Far easier to do than what you suggest and does NOT require the recipient to be a computer guru. Try it. You'll like it. I wouldn't do without it. It also lets you look at your own file much more easily than using your gen prog (even Legacy).

Either send them a CD or if they have broadband, you could email them the
link to legacyfamilytree.com to download the software and send them an
attached file. If they aren't that computer literate, sending them a CD
might be the easiest. You can build the CD to automatically launch when
they put the CD into their drive and then install Legacy and all your
data/photos automatically. I have helped quite a few people build CD's to
share with their family. It is a snap. The thing that takes the longest is
the actual burning to CD.

Just export your Legacy file to another Legacy file so you don't
accidentally share private notes/individuals, build the directory structure
on your hard drive as explained on the Legacy website at the following URL:

http://legacyfamilytree.com/tipsShareLegacy.asp

Then use your CD burning software to burn all the files and folders to a CD.
Once you relatives start using Legacy, they will probably be converted.

I used FTM many years ago as well as The Master Genealogist and others.
When I found Legacy 3, I liked it. I didn't convert to Legacy until version
4. It was just what I wanted.

When anyone is using FTM, PAF, or any other program, I try my best to
convince them to make the switch over to Legacy. Since I spent a bunch of
money on other programs in my evaluation, I don't want others to have to
suffer the pain and expense I did until I found a database that was easy to
use yet VERY POWERFUL.

Do you mean burn it to CD and send it by snail mail? That's a
thought. Thanks, Glen. Legacy is a better program. Or maybe I
should let the recipient worry about lost or misplaced events and
sources? It just seems neighborly to try to do what I can at this
end to make it turn out right for everyone. -- Alice

Send your relative a Legacy file with the Legacy install. Convert them
to
Legacy since it is a much better program. This will solve your problems.
