Basically my philosophy is that one can enter anything they wish as long it is documented....just be very, very clear.....don't stint with the verbiage. Family tradition stories can be entered as an event as long as it is clearly stated it is tradition and there is no proof to back it up. The list is endless. Just remember that whatever you record will be taken as dogma in just a few generations.

There are genealogists and there are family historians - probably both types
will see your data.
A genealogist follows blood lines and should not be deceived by unnoted
adoptions or rearing the children of others as one's own.. Because of human
nature blood lines are not always what they appear to be so the genealogist
is frequently unwittingly deceived - but it's okay in his mind as long as it
is unwittingly.
A family historian not only follows blood lines but he also records the
makeup of the family as it exists from time to time regardless of blood
lines.
I think we need to be honest in recording data. If a child/person is
acquired by some means other than natural childbirth I think it is only
proper for the facts to be noted so there can be no mistake, If the adoptee
knows the birth parents I think he should be listed as their child - the
medical history could be very important. But, because of the love for the
child I think he should be listed with the adoptive parents also, along with
proper notation.
Even though genealogists may disagree the method does nothing to deceive
them thus their criticism has no basis. It's your genealogy/family history -
but be honest.
