A while back, I mentioned I had trouble searching the IGI using
Legacy, where my individuals have the Surname of [---?---] instead of
being blank. I was advised to delete the [---?---] from the name
fields.

I just went to try to change it, and I cannot delete the "[---?---]"
from the Master List, nor can I edit or search and replace it with a
blank or a single space.

Do I have to change each person individually? Is there a quicker way?
If I have a person who is a placeholder, since I know her married
surnames, for example, but not first or maiden name, I cannot delete
the Surname. Legacy thinks I'm deleting the person, even if they have
vital data and linked family.

I do have one idea that might work. Should I simply create an AKA for
each person with a [---?---] Surname and make it blank? Is there a way
to do this quickly? (I've only been using Legacy for a few months,
and I'm still learning.)

Thank you,
