To answer your specific question, you can search a specific field for text or a date, but you cannot search all fields at once. So you can ask Legacy to give you a list of individuals whose birthplace contains "Elmira". But you cannot ask Legacy the find "Elmira" anywhere in the database. I suppose this is because Legacy uses MS Access as its underlying database. An SQL query to locate "Elmira" in all columns of all tables would be a monstrosity. One workaround would be to export your Legacy data to a GEDCOM, then use a text editor to search the GEDCOM for "Elmira". P.S. Because MS Access is the underlying database, you can always purchase a copy of Access and "roll your own" queries. -- Dennis M.
