Does anyone know if Legacy will have a session at the National meeting in
Chicago in June?

Subject: [LegacyUG] Use of ENGLISH and abbreviations in genealogy
programs

When I attended the National Genealogical Society Conference in Nashville,
Tennessee last year, I took the Legacy session. There I learned that all of
the 2 letter state abbreviations should all be spelled out for posterity,
along with any other abbreviations. I am still correcting some of my master
lists now! I wish I had known this before I started transcribing all of the
records, especially census records. It is preferred to spell out all
abbreviations.

One such example would be CA which = both California, as a state in the
United States of America and also = Canada, our neighbor to the north.

I find that amongst the most confusing acronyms is the almost instance that
our USA (sorry United States of America) based posters use the 2 letter
United States Postal Service abbreviations for the names of very proud
states in their nation.

As yet I don't have any tree members that chose to go to /were sent to the
new world so I just ignore most of the post even when it includes one of the
names I'm interested in.

Incidentally was born in Lincs went to Leics to live but visited my uncles
in Warks, Yorks, Salop & Herts before my parents & I moved to WA then SA but
have visited Qld and have frunds un Un Zud and Soth Efrika.

Off my soap box now!
