Hi David,
Legacy CAN tag people in order to do this - BUT - if there are linkages between the lines, you drag in lines you didn't want - unless you can identify them all and unlink them.

You can try tagging the Entire Ancestor line of your father.

Example: One of my maternal cousins married a distant relation of someone who married into my father's line. My niece married into the same line. That means that I can't pull out my father's line using this method without pulling in my mother's line as well. I think there are other linkages as well that I haven't identified. Because there were many social links as well as relationships, I have a lot of my great nephews and nieces ancestors in my tree. I'm sure I'm not alone in doing this.

Because of this problem I always tag descendants from all the relevant most distant ancestors. So long as you are systematic, using the Pedigree View from top to bottom, you shouldn't miss anybody.
