Ron: "Cutesy non value added bells and whistles" is hardly the way I'd describe giving special recognition to ancestors and/or relatives who have made outstanding and significant contributions to our lives and to our country.
With the Sailing Ship Icon, I am giving special acknowledgement to brave emigrant ancestors who made the arduous and dangerous ocean voyage to start a new life in this country. With the Military Emblem Icon, I am saying "Thanks" for my ancestor's military service to this country. Anyone who has put their life on the line for me deserves a salute in my book. I'm sorry, you consider giving credit where credit is due is of no value and not substantive. What is the point in compiling a genealogy? Is anyone going to read endless pages of b&w text reciting dates and places? A little colored Icon draws a reader's attention to extraordinary people. I'm happy to see there are others on this list who want to acknowledge ancestors who made valuable and substantive contributions to their lives.
