Legacy stores dates as dates so that they can be sorted and searched
as dates and remembers that you do or don't wish to view double
dates. Your problem is one of consistency - sometimes this, sometimes that.
In my opinion, you need to enter dates consistently. Then, use notes
(or event notes) to document your documentation (date) details.
