Hi Myna
When I first started using Legacy I did the same thing. Here is the
solution I found that works pretty easy.
1-To consolidate all your photos, decide upon a single folder in which to
place them, and create it if need be. Then, in Legacy, go to <Options>
<Customize> <Locations> tab. Select the button <View Current list of
Multimedia Locations>. In this window, if the 'master' folder you are now
going to use is not listed, select the <Add> button feature to browse for,
and select the folder you are going to use for your master collection. Then
select <Close> to close this window and return to the <Locations> tab.
What I also do in the <Locations> tab, is under the heading 'Default
location of picture, sound,...files', enter there the same folder path name
you are going to use for your picture files. ( i.e..ex. the one I use is
"I:/gen-pics")
2- Now, while in the <Locations> tab. Select 'Test all Multimedia Paths'.
(A)-On the dialog that pops up, CLEAR the box for 'Remove unreferenced
pictures, etc...',
(B)-then CHECK the one for ' Make a list of all missing files', then click
on <Proceed>.
Legacy will then generate a list in your text editor, which can be
printed out from there, which you can refer to and then locate where all
those scattered photos are and collect them into the default folder you
specified in step-1
3-Now using that list you can then find where all those photos are and
copy/move them to that designated folder.
4-To finish up, in Legacy, go back to <Options> <Customize> <Locations> tab.
Select the button <View Current list of Multimedia Locations>. This will
list a summary of all the other locations where you had linked your pictures
from.
At the bottom is a button <Combine the highlighted path with another one
on the list>. This is the magic editing you are looking for.
The idea is to:
(A)-select and highlight each of the old misc. paths where you HAD a
photo located,
(B)-hit the <combine...> button, it will then change to <Highlight the
destination, then click this button>.
(C)-select and highlight the default folder path (destination) you are
now going to use,
(D)-then click the <Highlight...> button.
Legacy will then find each of the old path names you selected, throughout
your database file, and change them to the new default one for you, without
having to manually search and edit each one.
All in all, I hope this is clear enough and helps. (and correct ? <g>) I'm
tired, and its late.
Nite all..

Subject: [LegacyUG] photo locations
Hello list,
Well, it looks as if I have really screwed up this time on my
photos. Seems like when I added about 50 or so photos at one time
I put them in a DIFFERENT location than where the rest of the
photos are located (D:/Legacy/photos). Is there any way that I
can tell Legacy to look in either of two locations for photos or
do I have to manually move and relink them? Maybe what I really
need to do is move ALL of my genealogy photos over to Legacy
photos (there are MANY of these that have not been associated
with the program yet). Will that work?
Thanks,
Myrna
