I tried to standardize and document the database locations in the 
database_loading branch for the OSX and Windows platform. It needs some 
more testing, but fixing the scripts should be easy now.

If you find some free time it would be great if you could review the 
database_loading and modifier_api branches. The latter still needs 
doxygen documentation but I wanted to wait for your feedback regarding 
the API structure before I start with it.
