It's been 4 months now since I was on this list. Back then, I gave up
on Leo because it was simply impossible for me to install. See here:

http://groups.google.com/group/leo-editor/browse_frm/thread/2bae897436d3d70e/dafb8b68071827ee?lnk=gst&q=mac#dafb8b68071827ee
The end result of that thread was that I'd have to risk installing a
half-gig binary package that no one on this list knew whether it would
harm my existing development environment. I won't risk that
environment and my productivity on just the chance that it will Leo
working.

But more recently I realized a new potential use case for Leo that
would be very valuable to me, so I came back to this list, determined
to try again and see if I could get it going. But in the interim I
see that all that's happened is that another Mac user (Carlo) has
posted to that thread, with the same troubles as me, and been ignored.

So, Leo developers and Leo community: Do you care whether you have
Mac users? I notice that the Windows installer has been enhanced in
the latest release. I see that I can download a Linux RPM. But on
the Mac I find that not only do I have to follow a lengthy build
process, but also that no one on this list seems to understand the
details of the steps in that process enough to help me through it. (I
find it amazing that you have any Mac users posting on your forums!
How did they get a working version?)

It would be a sad thing if what seems to me (from afar) like a good
product (Leo) were unusable for me simply due to lack of community
support, or lack of care about my platform (which is a fast growing
platform, especially among technically inclined people, a major part
of Leo's users). Can we not have an .app bundle, or at least an
installer? If not, how about a darwinport or fink entry?

(One of the reasons I've shied away from PyQt in my own development is
this exact fear: That my application would be a prohibitive hassle to
distribute. Does PyQt not come with a way to package up one's
application into something one can share with others? Or do you have
to force your users to build PyQt (in a particular way, against a
particular Qt, also installed a particular way) first?)

This email is a plea. Please support my platform, and that of Carlo,
and the others who tried to build Leo on Mac and failed but just
didn't post here! Or if you do not intend to do so, then please
change the Leo homepage so that it no longer says "Leo runs on
Windows, Linux and MacOS X."
